New Delhi : The number of motor vehicles plying on Delhi’s roads has gone up from 82.58 lakh in 2013-14 to 88.27 lakh in 2014-15 — a 6.4 percent increase, said the government on Wednesday.
The growing number of vehicles over the years has raised pollution level in the capital with its air declared to most polluted in the world by the WHO last year.
Of the 88.27 lakh registered vehicles, 81,633 are three-wheelers. In 2013-14, their numbers stood at 78,750, said the Economic Survey of Delhi 2014-15.
“This has automatically enhanced the pollution levels of Delhi by the emission of pollutants by these vehicles,” said the survey.
During the same period, the number of two-wheelers rose from 1,49,147 to 1,60,156. Four-wheelers shot up from 26,25,250 to 27,90,566.
