New Delhi: Calling it as “disheartening and disappointing”, the Welfare Party of India (WPI) on Monday said the Tis Hazari court decision to acquit 16 PAC personnel in the Hashimpura massacre case as an example of “justice not only delayed but denied too.”
Describing it as “a cold blooded murder”, the Welfare Party of India (WPI) in a statement here said, “The police is for protecting the citizens and if they themselves become the perpetrators whom should the people trust? It is like the fence eating the grass.”
The insecurity amongst the minority community by this verdict is palpable and their pain and anguish is justified, the WPI’s media coordinator said in a statement.
Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court on Saturday, March 21, 2015 acquitted 16 PAC personnel in Hashimpura massacre case for lack of evidence. As many as 42 Muslims from Hashimpura Mohalla of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh were picked up from their homes, taken in a PAC vehicle, brutally shot and their bodies were thrown in the river by the police personal of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) on May 22, 1987.
The WPI said it stands by the families of the victims and supports them in their fight for justice. “We have great faith in the judicial system of the country and one day, justice will prevail and the culprits will be punished,” the statement added.
