AMU relief team leaves for Nepal

Aligarh: A team of doctors and volunteers from the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) left for Kathmandu to provide medical relief to the victims of recent earthquake that has caused heavy loss of life and property in Nepal.

The medical team, which is carrying large consignments of medicine and other relief material, has volunteered its services under the banner of “SOCH beyond Imagination”, an organization of students of Aligarh Muslim University, a release from AMU said.

Dr Kashif Razi, team leader said that the team will focus on highly affected and interior areas of Nepal, which lie unattended. He said that the team is in constant touch with some local NGOs there.

Dr Saleem Mohd Khan said that both the Indian and Nepalese embassies have been informed about the departure of relief team.

Dr Danish Suhail, secretary, SOCH beyond the Imagination, informed that the team had a vast experience of providing humanitarian and medical aid during natural disasters in Kashmir floods, Uttarakhand floods and communal riots that took place in Muzaffarnagar in 2013. He said that Shailendra Singh and Alok Gupta, representatives of Aligarh Drug and Chemists’ Association, which has provided free medicines worth of Rs 2 lakh, were also accompanying the medical relief team, the release said.

Besides team leader, Dr Kahif Razi, the relief team includes Dr Murad Ahmed, Dr Ali Adil Mahmud, Dr Saleem Mohammad Khan, Dr Danish Suhail, Dr Abhishek Royal, Dr Saurabh Pathak, Mr Amood Gulzar, Mr Shailendra Singh and Mr Alok Kumar Gupta, the release added.
