New Delhi : A Lok Sabha member on Friday demanded a special session of parliament to commemorate 125th anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar.
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader from Odisha, Tathagata Satpathy raised the issue during zero hour when members were discussing the government decision to extend the current session of the Lok Sabha till May 13.
“We are celebrating 125th birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar. I would urge the government to convene a special session to commemorate the cause, which will be a great tribute to the father of our constitution,” he said.
The demand from the BJD member was supported by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) member Prem Singh Chandumajra. He also demanded photographs of Ambedkar be made compulsory in every court of the country.
Ambedkar (1891-1956) was a jurist, economist, politician and social reformer who campaigned against social discrimination against Dalits, women and labour.
