Kozhikode: Bringing a face-lift to the educational sector in the state, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy laid the foundation stone for a permanent academic block at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Malappuram Centre at Chelamala near here.
Addressing at the foundation stone laying ceremony at the 343 acres of land in Chelamala on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said the state government will give all support to complete the developmental works at this Centre in time. He also urged the University authorities to take steps to start the proposed school at the Centre as early as possible. Presently, this Centre offers B A, LLb, MBA and B Ed courses.

Lt Gen (Retd) Zamir Uddeen Shah, AMU vice chancellor, who presided over the function, assured that the hopes and expectations of the people of Kerala will be fulfilled. “The construction of academic block would be completed within a year and new courses would be started from next academic session,” he said.
The academic block consists of three six-storey buildings, which are being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 95 crore.
“The Centre will help students with different cultures to interact. Aligarh University is playing an important role in upholding the heritage and unity of the country,” the Chief Minister said.
Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb declared the Centre as WiFi campus at the function while Minister Manjalamkuzhi Ali inaugurated the bio-diversity conversion project.
E Ahamed, MP; Nalakath Sooppy, Valluvanad Development Authority chairman, Abdul Asees, Aligarh University former vice chancellor; Ameer Babu; MLAs P Ubaidullah, M Ummer, Abdurehman Randathani; Suhra Mampad, district panchayat president, and Parves Thalib, Aligarh centre deputy coordinator, also attended the function.
Asees, also the Aligarh Malappuram Centre director, presented the report. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister asked the Vice Chancellor to start a school on the campus for the students in Kerala.
