Cairo : The newly-created presidential e-mail of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi received 8,000 messages in 24 hours, a media report said.
The presidential e-mail — [email protected] — announced by the presidency on Tuesday is meant for Sisi to communicate personally with Egyptian citizens and address their inquiries, concerns and recommendations.
Among the 8,000 messages, some 50 percent were complaints, 20 percent suggestions and 26 percent praise, Xinhua reported, citing the state-run Ahram news website, on Thursday.
“President Sisi will answer a group of these inquiries during his monthly speech,” said the presidency.
Sisi believes that “transparency and popular participation in decision-making represent the most important way in the development course Egypt is going through”.
As then-military chief, Sisi led the removal of former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 following mass protests against Morsi and his currently-outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group.
Enjoying massive popularity, president Sisi came to office in mid-2014 after a landslide victory over his leftist opponent Hamdeen Sabahy.
