The series of deadly attacks in Paris on Friday night left 140 people dead and sent shock waves among people living across the globe.

About seven simultaneous shootings rocked central Paris on Friday night with one turning into a hostage crisis at the Bataclan theatre and concert hall where hundreds of people were attending a concert.

The international community has strongly condemned the attacks on the French capital. Millions of people across the globe took to social networking websites to condemn the incident. In India, which had experienced similar attacks in Mumbai in 2008, people took to Facebook and Twitter to express their solidarity with the bereaved families.

Many of the Indian Muslim organizations issued statements condemning the Paris attack in strongest words and asked to maintain the calm.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, president, Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umri while condemning the incident said :

“We condemn the attacks on innocent civilians and stand with the people of France in their hour of grief.Such terrorist attacks have no place in a civilized society and the perpetrators of this ghastly crime must realize that there can be no justification and rationale for such kind of violence and that the world will always remain united in condemning and opposing them,” Umri said in a press statement on Saturday.

An Indian Muslim women’s group, Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan also condemned the incident and denounced terrorists for killing innocents in Paris in the name of Islam.

“We condemn them outright for carrying out such inhuman and criminal acts in the name of Allah. We want to state clearly and emphatically that these terrorists have no business to speak in the name of Allah or on behalf of fellow Muslims,” a spokesperson of the organisation said in an interview to ZeeNews

“We urge all Indian Muslims as well as Muslims the world over to stand up in solidarity with the French victims and against those resorting to such dastardly acts in the name of our religion,” they added

Meanwhile a hash tag #MuslimsAreNotTerrorist started trending on Twitter after Islamophobes tried to use Paris attack as a pretext for linking terrorism to Islam.

Delhi Police on Saturday detained dozens of social activists including Shabnam Hashmi for protesting against Paris attacks at India Gate, Delhi as police claim that section 144 was in place.

The activists had gathered to protest against the brutal terror attacks in Paris and tried to take out a silent candle light vigil. Activists were later released from Tilak Marg police station after detained for brief period.

Indian leaders across the political spectrum have strongly condemned the incident and expressed solidarity with the people of the France.
