The US News Best Global Universities Rankings has placed Aligarh Muslim University at 594th position in its prestigious Best Global Universities in World 2016, besides placing it at 69th rank among the Best Global Universities for Mathematics.
Twelve indicators were used to calculate the institution’s overall Best Global Universities Ranking: global score, global research reputation, regional research reputation, publications, books, conferences, normalized citation impact, total citations, number of publications that are among the 10% most cited, percentage of total publications that are among the 10% most cited, international collaboration, number of PhDs awarded and the number of PhDs awarded per academic staff member.
With a global score of 39.7%, AMU was ranked at 594 out of the top 750 institutions spread across 57 countries with Harvard University occupying the coveted first position.
With subject score of 63.4%, AMU was also ranked 69th out of the top 150 best global universities for mathematics.
In Best Global University in Asia, AMU was ranked 110th among 185 universities in Asia, with University of Tokyo being placed on the top slot.
In Best Global University in India, AMU was ranked sixth with the Indian Institute of Science, Banglore grabbing the top honours.
Other Indian universities that have figured in the list include Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (354), Punjab University (363), Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (442), Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (550), University of Delhi (610) and Banaras Hindu University (625).
USNews, which conducted the rankings, termed them helpful for students exploring higher education options that exist beyond their own countries’ borders and to compare key aspects of schools’ research missions.
