New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged youth organisations to contribute to the efforts made for water conservation and cleanliness in the country.
Modi said that massive effort would be made in the next couple of months under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme towards water conservation and storage mechanisms.
An official statement released on Tuesday said the prime minister reviewed the functioning of various youth organisations like the National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Indian Red Cross Society and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan on Monday and urged them to mobilise support for and contribute to these efforts.
It said Modi interacted with the youth for nearly two hours and stressed the need for better coordination and synergy among these organisations.
Modi also gave inputs and suggestions and said that cleanliness, creation of clusters free of open defecation, and inculcation of the national spirit anew among the youth were the key objectives the youth organisations should strive for.
He mentioned the government’s ‘Mission Indradhanush’ initiative to reach the unvaccinated children and said the youth groups and organisations could aid in this initiative.
The prime minister also called for synergy among various initiatives and programmes organised on the National Youth Day on January 12, so that a more meaningful impact could be achieved.
He asked the youth organisations to keep a more active presence on the social media so as to generate a wider appeal and better connect with the youth.
