Hamid, who is a resident of Old Delhi, was earlier the member of AIMMM’s Central Working Committee. Earlier this year, he had a spat with the organisation’s president, Dr Zafarul Islam Khan, saying that “independent observers would be free to conclude that compromises, manipulations and personal choices have over shadowed the true democratic process and the talk for democratisation of Mushawarat is nothing but a farce.”

Interestingly, in 2012, Navaid Hamid and Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan battled it out for the post of the president of this umbrella body of Indian Muslims. In the end, Dr. Khan managed to win by two votes.
