Osmanabad: Moved by the plight of families in the drought-affected regions of Maharasthra, the Association of Muslim Professionals, a pan-India social welfare organisation, visited these areas and provided financial assistance to ten needy families along with helping others identify various sources of earning an income.

The AMP team visited Osmanabad, Latur, Naldur and Solapur and provided financial assistance to families in which females were the only earning members, under its ‘self-employment’ initiative. It also explored options on how to make them self-sufficient. Earlier the AMP team had assisted other organisations in distributing cheques to families of drought-affected farmers.

They also held sessions with local people on exploring avenues of creating regular income for them.

Speaking about the visit, Aamir Edresy, President, Association of Muslim Professionals, said, “During my earlier visit under “Help Kisan – An Initiative By SEWA”, I was really moved by the plight of the people and had made up my mind that I would soon return back with my team…we have tried by providing some financial assistance to 10 families as of now who have been narrowed down upon by our local facilitators Dr. Tabassum Sultana and her team after due diligence. Though some organisations have extended financial assistance to people of this region, we intended to do something more than that to help these people generate a decent source of income. ”
