New Delhi : Amid talk of Navjot Singh Sidhu joining the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said he “salutes” the cricketer-turned-politician for his “courage” in quitting the Rajya Sabha.
“People can give their right hand for an RS (Rajya Sabha) seat. Ever seen a sitting RS MP resigning to save his state? I salute Sidhu ji for his courage,” Kejriwal, the AAP national convenor, said in a tweet.
Sidhu was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in April this year.
In a major jolt to the BJP ahead of the Punjab assembly elections, Sidhu on Monday tendered his resignation from the Rajya Sabha, sparking off speculation that he may walk across to the Aam Aadmi Party.
A senior AAP leader, who did not want to be named, told IANS that Sidhu may hold a press conference in a day or so and could announce his future political moves.
The AAP would plan its future course of action regarding his induction accordingly, the sources said.
