Kuwait: Indo-Kuwait Friendship Society (IKFS), a leading non-profit socio cultural friendship association in Kuwait has sent memorandum to Ministry of Information and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to stop the distribution of all the publication of the radical Hindu groups’ Malayalam daily, Mathrubhumi, for publishing allegedly offensive comments about Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).
Mathrubhumi, a foremost Malayalam daily in Kerala in its Kozhikode and Thrissur editions on Wednesday purportedly printed offensive comment on Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) creating massive outrace from Muslim community.
Owing to the protests, the daily was forced to put out an apology on Thursday at its front page, “We understand the comments hurt the sentiments of followers. We apologise deeply for the error.”
However, IKFS that has Chief Patron as Rajindar Sachar, Former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court took a serious note of such publication and sent memorandum to Arab countries.
IKFS alleged that the newspaper was targeting and defaming the Muslim community. It also alleged that through its offensive publication the daily encouraged blasphemy which caused distress to the community while insulting Prophet Mohammed’s marriage and criticizing the practice of polygamy among Muslims.
“IKFS is asking all the peace loving people of the world to stop subscribing Kerala’s 94-year-old, second-largest newspaper while banning its distribution in all over the world”, a statement from IKFS reads.
