Effigies of Tharoor, Owaisi burnt in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad : The traders body in Ghaziabad on Saturday burnt effigies of former union minister Shashi Tharoor and MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi over their recent remarks.

About 200 volunteers of the Udyog Vyapar Mandal burnt the effigies of Lok Sabha members Tharoor and Owaisi near the Clock Tower on GT Road at 12.30 p.m., said Subhash Chhabra, city president of the youth wing of the Mandal.

“The effigies were burnt for their remarks comparing Kanhaiya Kumar with Shaheed Bhagat Singh. It is an insult to the great martyr Bhagat Singh,” said Chhabra.

Owaisi was recently embroiled in a controversy when he refused to say “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, while Tharoor had drawn a parallel between the freedom fighter and Jawaharlal Nehru University student leader Kanhaiya Kumar who is facing sedition charges.
