In an affidavit submitted in Supreme Court on Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board has said that only Ram Temple should be constructed on the disputed site in Ayodhya.

In its affidavit, Waqf Board said that mosque too should be constructed in a Muslim dominated locality situated at a reasonable distance from the disputed Ramjanmbhoomi site.

In its 30-page affidavit, Shia Waqf Board has said that if mosque and temple will be constructed on the same site, there will always be a situation where clashes can take place.

Ayodhya case has been pending in the country’s apex court since 2010, when Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court divided the disputed land equally between Ram Lalla. Sunni Waqf Board and Nirmohi Akhara.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy submitted a plea in the court to hear the matter under urgent listing, a request to which court agreed.

Moreover, the Chief Justice of India JS Khehar has constituted a three-judge bench including Justices Dipak Misra, Ashok Bhushan and SA Nazeer to hear the petitions challenging the Allahabad High Court decision. Hearing over the petitions shall start from August 11.

On July 27, Shia Waqf Board had claimed to be one of the parties in the case. Board has said that it has never put its version in the various courts whenever the dispute was heard in the courts. Till now, Sunni Central Waqf Board has been one of the main sides in the mosque’s case.

In its affidavit, Shia Waqf Board said that It had the possession of the disputed land until 1946, when Britishers gave the same possession to the Sunni Waqf Board.

BJP has openly batted for Shia Waqf Board to be included in the case as one of the parties. Several meeting of party’s minority wing have been held recently in Lucknow and Faizabad, where Sunni Waqf Board and Babri Masjid Action Committee were accused of creating differences between the people.
