On late Friday night, Uttar Pradesh police rescued 51 girls from a madrasa in Lucknow. The girls, who are said to be under 19 years of age, were held against their will. The police have also arrested madrassa manager Mohammad Tayyab Zia on the charges of exploiting the rescued girls.

Madarssa Jamia Khadeejtul Qubra Lilabnat is situated in Yasinganj area under Saadatganj police jurisdiction of Lucknow. The madrasa property was being used as girls’ hostel by Tayyab Zia.

On December 29, Friday, locals received various chits and papers thrown outside by the girls living in the hostel asking for help. Girls wrote on a piece of paper that they were being held hostage against their will, and Tayyab Zia, along with his ally used to traffic girls in the sex trade.

Soon after receiving the information, SSP Deepak Kumar, along with SP West Vikas Chandra Tripathi, ADM City Santosh Kumar Vaishya, led a raid on the madrasa and rescued 51 girls from the facility.

According to the police officials, a total of 151 girls live in the hostel and 51 were present at the time of the raid.

The girls have alleged that Tayyab Zia used to call girls inside his room and used to molest them. Moreover, there are also serious allegations of trafficking girls for sex trade which police is investigating.

The madrasa in question is the property of Syed Mohammad Jilani Asharaf, a known cleric from Lucknow. In his application written to the police, Ashraf has said that after making the madrasa, he gave it to Qari Tayyab Zia to run the operations, but soon Tayyab Zia started using it as girls’ hostel.

Jilani Ashraf has also alleged that Tayyab Zia and his confederates used to threaten him to keep his mouth shut or face the consequences.

The rescued girls were sent to Nari Niketan and the probe in the case is on.
