More Cow : Modi’s 19-member ‘scientific team’ to research on cow dung and urine

Even if Narendra Modi has condemned atrocities of right wing organizations in the name of cow-protection, but the action of his government says that this government is becoming more cow everyday. 
 
The Union Ministry of Science and Technology has constituted a 19-member panel to conduct a detailed research on cow derivatives, and their benefits. The derivatives also include Cow’s excreta and urine. 
 
The 19-member ‘scientific panel’ will also include members from allied organizations of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, and ex-CSIR chief R A Mashelkar. The panel, which Union Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan will head himself, has a tenure for three years. 
 
The panel also includes secretaries of the departments of Science and Technology, Biotechnology, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, and scientists from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. Other members include IIT Delhi director Prof V Ramgopal Rao and Prof VK Vijay from Centre for Rural Development and Technology of IIT.
 
As the co-chairman of the committee, Vijay Bhatkar, president of RSS-affiliated organization Vigyan Bharti has taken the charge. Other RSS-VHP linked members of the panel are A. Jayakumar and Sunil Mansinghka. Jayakumar is secretary general of Vigyan Bharti, and Maninghka is the member of Nagpur based VHP outlet Gau Vigyan Anusandhan Kendra.
 
The circular which was accessed by PTI said, “this multi-disciplinary programme will involve participation of other related ministries, government departments, academic institutions, research laboratories, voluntary organisations and others to carry out research and development and also build capacities, and cover five thematic areas including scientific validation of uniqueness of indigenous cows.”
 
The panel will study the benefits of panchgavya – the five derivatives of cow which are cow dung, urine, milk, curd and ghee – in reference to their medicinal values, nutritional values, health benefits and agricultural benefits.
 
The project is called SVAROP, which is an acronym for ‘Scientific Validation and Research on Panchgavya’.
