Research scholars from the Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Devoshree Mukherjee and Hadiya Husain received the first and second prizes respectively for their poster-presentations at a two-day national symposium on ‘Animal Experimentation in Biomedical Research: Scientific and Ethical Perspectives’ . The symposium took place at the ‘National JALMA Institute for Leprosy and other Mycobacterial Diseases’ in association with ‘Laboratory Animal Science Association of India (LASAI)’ in Agra.
Devoshree and Hadiya are pursuing research under the supervision of Dr Riaz Ahmad (Associate Professor, Section of Genetics, Department of Zoology, AMU), who was also honoured by ICMR for his contribution in the area of ‘liver diseases and drug/biomarker discovery’.
The work of these research scholars on ‘Drug discovery and use of novel nutritional ingredients against the disease hepatic fibrosis’ received appreciation from renowned scientists and delegates attending the symposium. AMU research scholar, Uzma Latief was also applauded for her presentation on ‘Action of carotenes in the abatement of liver diseases’.
Dr K R Bhardwaj (Founder President, LASAI), Dr U D Gupta (Director in-charge, NJIL & OMD), Dr Rishendra Verma (President, LASAI) and Dr D S Upadhyay (Secretary General, LASAI) were present in the symposium, which had participants from IIT Roorkee, CDRI, JALMA and other top institutes.
