Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor today released a special bicentenary issue of Tehzeeb-ul-Akhlaq, a journal for social reform launched by AMU founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan in 1870.
The special edition includes articles on life and works of Sir Syed and other reformers of his time contributed by more than 40 scholars from across the country.
On the occasion, the Vice Chancellor said that Sir Syed’s contributions began with the strong passion for education. He added that Sir Syed realized advantages of Western education at a time when it was considered a taboo.
Prof Mansoor said that Sir Syed established the Scientific Society of Aligarh and meaningfully contributed to the development of Urdu prose, journalism, historical research and social work.
“Sir Syed’s work and reform movement was widely accepted by scholars and people of various religious, ethnic and regional communities in India,” said the Vice Chancellor.
Prof Sagheer Afraheem (Editor, Tehzeeb ul Akhlaq), Prof Shafey Kidwai (Member-in-Charge, Public Relations Office), Prof Abdul Aleem (Chairperson, Department of Hindi) and Mr Omar Saleem Peerzada (Public Relations Officer) were also present.
