The programme was organised keeping in mind the recent attacks made on journalists especially women journalists who are thought to be vulnerable by aggressive individuals.

The women were taught important tips of self defence by which in a few quick movements the women can defend themselves and escape unhurt. The women learnt how to tackle when someone grasps their hands, tries to choke them, how to block, duck when blows are coming their way.

One of the participants, Ms. Moni Haldar, working for Bangla Newspaper told “In the beginning I was nervous but after the 3 days I felt good about myself. This training has boosted my level of confidence. It is not necessary to be an expert just knowing some important techniques is enough to defend ourselves. I am thankful for this training and I feel every girl, every woman should learn self defence.”

M A Ali, the chief instructor, said, “Self-defence is very important for girls and women. I feel it should be made compulsory in all schools and colleges for girls.” M A Ali also said that Rabindranath Tagore the idol of every Bengali had also learnt martial arts in Japan but his is a lesser known fact.

Keya Seth Sk Golam Rabbani Deputy Chairman of World Mixed Martial Art Council was the chief guest. Ayesha Noor, Gold medallist at International Karate championship was also present to motivate and cheer the participants.

Many participants said Ayesha Noor is their inspiration.  They all expressed their happiness on the last day of the workshop and thanked the organisers.
