Srinagar: On March 8, a Kashmiri couple was arrested by the Special cell of Delhi Police from their rented accommodation in Jamia Nagar locality of southeast Delhi.
The couple, Jahanzaib Sami Wani and his wife Hina Bashir Beg, according to PTI was arrested for fuelling Anti-CAA protests on the instructions of Khorasan Module of the IS. The mainstream national media, as if, were waiting to fan the flames once the matter was out, due to the Muslim identity involved.
A resident of Shivpora in Srinagar, Sami was working as project manager with a UK based IT company and had got married to Hina in October last year. As the Valley was reeling under internet clampdown, his company transferred him to Delhi where the couple lived in a rented flat at Okhla Vihar in Jamia Nagar.
“This is purely fiction, my son is innocent and they were detained just for their identity,” said Sami’s mother to TwoCircles.net. She is numb and finds the charges completely unbelievable. Sami’s mother is a retired teacher and his father is a businessman. The couple’s family back home in Shivpora is in a state of shock with the news. Relatives and neighbors flock the house to console the family, who are more shattered by the media trial in newsrooms when the judicial process is yet to start. The parents of both of them have moved to Delhi to seek legal aid.
“Delhi Police is going to produce the charge sheet today and the first hearing will go on,” informed Sehrish, Sami’s sister.
Sehrish, who is a student of Law says that her brother was career-oriented and was focused in his work. She added that he had never even been interested in Kashmir conflict and had “never participated in any protest so how can he be affiliated with ISIS.”
Sehrish opines that this is a targeted attack on the couple’s Muslim and Kashmiri identities. She feels that since ISIS used pictures of anti-Muslim riots to call for Jihad, the police got under pressure to frame anyone. And due to their identities, police got bent on making her brother a scapegoat and booked him.
According to the Special Cell, the couple has been allegedly “promoting the Islamic State’s ideology”, and were inciting Muslims to take up a violent struggle against the state for which they recruited youngsters by instigating them to protest against CAA. Police had seized four mobile phones, one laptop, one external hard disc and claimed recovery of incriminating material related to ISIS from their house.
In a press conference, DCP, Delhi Police Special cell, Pramod Kushwaha said,“We have found incriminating literature related to ISIS and other things which we are forensically examining.” Confronting this, Sehrish says the material police is talking about are basic religious and fundamental books of Muslims
“It’s completely baseless, they have concocted the story in order to frame the duo,” Sehrish said, adding that Kashmiris are framed in any case the police seems to fit them.
On Tuesday, a Delhi court extended their custody by seven days, asserting that the investigation is on initial stage. Police has also made one more arrest in relation to IS Khorasan Module for reportedly planning a terror attack in the country, according to IANS. The arrested has been lodged into police custody for seven days.
