“Women’s Day a chance to understand women’s struggles,” AMU celebrates International Women’s Day

The International Women’s Day (IWD) 2021 was observed to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political accomplishments of women with great ardour at the Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies, Women’s College and NSS office of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Paying tributes to women achievers on the international theme, ‘Choose To Challenge’; the students and faculty members called out against gender bias and inequality with commitment and resilience.

“The Women’s Day provides a chance to understand the objectives and achievements of women’s struggles and also provides an opportunity to transform objectives into action for women empowerment in rural and urban areas,” said Prof Azra Musavi, Director, Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies.

She stressed on the acknowledgement of women’s efforts in achieving sustainable development goals in the real sense.

The students, faculty members and staff of the Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies demonstrated placards on the Women’s Day theme to voice their opinions. The centre plans to organise more such activities throughout the month.

The Hindi Section of the Women’s College observed the day with self-composed poetry and elocution competitions on the theme, ‘Equal Opportunities for Women during Covid Pandemic’, said Prof Reshma Begum.

Dr Asma also addressed the girl students on the importance of Women’s Day.

Student Volunteers and Office Staff of National Service Scheme (NSS) also observed the day with an online programme.

Dr. Arshad Husain (Programme Coordinator, NSS), Dr Juhi Gupta, Dr Mujahid Ali Khan and Dr Ajmal Kafeel delivered special talks to apprise students on the achievements of women.
