Gujarat human rights groups condemn Orissa violence

By IANS,

Ahmedabad : Human rights groups in Gujarat Thursday condemned the attacks on the Christian community in Orissa following the killing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Swami Laxmananda Saraswati.

Several organisations at a meeting here condemned the attacks allegedly by the VHP, the Bajrang Dal and Hindu groups, said a statement from Prashant, a human rights group.

The meeting blamed the Orissa government of failing to protect the lives and properties of the Christian community in the state.

It also called for an impartial probe into the brutal killing of Laxmananda.
