Jaipur (Rajasthan): Even as the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Jaipur on September 5 extended the police remand of Shahbaz Hussain, one of the main accused in the Jaipur bombing, Hussain’s arrest itself has raised many questions than it answered.
First, his arresting seems to be inspired by the arrest of Abu Bashar as main accused of Ahmedabad serial blasts. Hussain was arrested on August 25, a few days after Abu Basher was arrested from Azamgarh.
Second, on August 2, Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria indicated transferring investigations into Jaipur serial blasts to a Central agency as the state agencies and intelligence could not make any headway even 80 days after the blasts.
It should also be noted that a day after the state BJP government indicated that the probe of Jaipur bombings could be handed over to a central government agency, the Rajasthan Muslim Forum, an umbrella body of Muslim organizations, had announced on August 3 to form an enquiry committee to nab the real culprits.
Jaipur was ripped through by the serial blast on May 13 this year in which 68 people were killed and scores others were wounded.
Soon after the Jaipur blasts, as it has become a tradition, the intelligence and police blamed some organizations like HuJI and SIMI. This set the direction of the enquiry. More than one hundred people from the Muslim community including Imams, Ulema and madrasa teachers were detained and grilled. However, the investigating agencies could not make any headway.
But days after the arrest of Abu Bashar was projected as the great achievement of the state government, Jaipur police in collaboration with the UP Anti-Terrorism Squad arrested Shahbaz Hussain from Lucknow.
Now the Jaipur police say that investigations have indicated that Hussain was directly involved in the Jaipur bombing.
