Kolkata : West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi, who is chairing the talks between the state government and the Trinamool Congress-led opposition on the Tata Nano car issue, has invited Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee for discussions at the Raj Bhavan here Sunday.
Disclosing this, the state’s Industry Minister Nirupam Sen said if necessary, the governor could also call Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee for talks.
He described the second day of the talks Saturday as positive, and said the third round between the two groups would be held Monday.
Meanwhile, the ruling Left Front committee would meet for an emergency meeting here Sunday to discuss the developments over the Nano car factory at Singur.
Left Front sources said the meeting has been convened to brief coalition partners about the discussions between the state government and representatives of the opposition Trinamool Congress-backed Krishijami Jiban Jibika Raksha Committee, which is leading the protests with the demand that the state government return 400 acres of land it has “forcibly acquired” from “unwilling farmers” for the project.
Two rounds of talks Friday and Saturday on the issue remained inconclusive.
Meanwhile, in Singur, 40 km from here, Banerjee said the state government should take into account the feelings of people of the area.
“They are fighting for more than two years for their land,” Banerjee said from the makeshift dais from where she has been leading the indefinite sit-in of the KJJRC on the Durgapur Expressway close to the Tata Motors small car factory.
