Lucknow : Tension prevailed in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh following the alleged desecration of a holy book of a minority community, police said Thursday.
“The religious book, with a couple of pages torn out, was found lying on the road late Wednesday night outside a mosque in Machlishaher locality in Jaunpur,” police officer M.R. Dugtal told IANS on phone.
He added that some members of the community Thursday took to the streets and disrupted traffic at several places in Jaunpur, over 150 km from here.
They also attempted to assault some people of the other community, blaming them for the “desecration” of the holy book, police said.
Sensing a communal flare-up, additional security forces were deployed in the district, police added.
