Washington : U.S. President George W. Bush will welcome Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on September 25,the White House said in a statement on Thursday.
The visit will “strengthen the strategic partnership and build upon our progress in other areas of cooperation, such as agriculture, education, trade, and defense,” the statement said.
Meanwhile the statement said that Bush is pleased to approve the civil nuclear cooperation agreement between the two countries and looks forward to working with the Congress to ensure passage on the agreement this year.
Bush has welcomed the approval by the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) to lift nuclear trade embargo on India, a move that will pave the way for the Congress approval of the U.S.-Indian civilian nuclear cooperation deal.
Under the deal signed by the U.S. and India in March 2006, India will get access to U.S. civil nuclear technology on the condition that India is to separate nuclear facilities for civilian and military use and open its nuclear facilities for inspection.
