By IANS,

Kolkata : Former West Bengal chief minister and Marxist veteran Jyoti Basu, who is in a nursing home here after a fall at his residence here last week, is in a stable condition and a decision on surgery will be taken Monday, the hospital said Friday.

“Basu is in a stable condition and there is no change in his clinical parameters. Our team of experts is constantly monitoring his cardiac and neurological conditions,” said S. Upadhyay, AMRI Hospital’s vice-president.

Upadhyay said the 10-member medical board formed to attend to him is yet to decide on operating upon him and removing a clot in his brain.

“A repeat CT scan of Basu’s brain will be done Sunday, along with other medical tests. After that the board will review his condition Monday and then decide on the surgery,” Upadhyay said.

Basu, 94, suffered “internal haemorrhage in the head” after he fell at his Salt Lake home early Sep 5.

The veteran politician underwent a CT scan a day after his fall and was advised hospitalisation. He also received stitches on his forehead.

Basu was the West Bengal chief minister from 1977 to 2000.
