El Cairo : The death toll of a landslide in Manshiyet Nasser town in this capital has reached 75, wounding 58 over the last week, reported security forces.
Saturday’s tragedy leaves a new balance in a very poor neighborhood on the outskirts of El Cairo besides the possibility that other bodies could be found entombed under the boulders of Al-Muqattam Mountain.
MENA state agency reported that about 112 families were evacuated to safer houses after the government was criticized and decided to demolish the weakened homes still standing in the area of the accident.
Although the real causes of the event are under investigation it is speculated that the landslide that destroyed about 30 houses was provoked by stonework at the top of Al-Muqattam.
