Jakarta : An Indonesian international airport in Timika of Papua province was back to normal operation under a tight security after a bomb explosion on Sunday night near the airport, a paper reported Monday.
On Monday morning, a Garuda Indonesia flight from Bali landed at the airport at 6:30 a.m. local time at the Moses Kilangin International Airport in Timika.
The police boosted security checks at the police’s checkpoint on the only road leading to the airport as well as security check sat the Sheraton Hotel at the airport.
Police said Monday a mortar bomb exploded Sunday evening at an electricity power distribution unit, about 150 meters from the Moses Kilangin airport.
“We have not collected enough evidence from the site. Today, we will continue our investigation,” Papua Police’s investigation chief Sr. Comr. Paulus Waterpauw quoted by the Jakarta Post as saying.
He said that the explosion at the airport was similar to the two explosions on a highway leading to PT Freeport Indonesia’s copper and gold mining concession on Thursday night and early Friday morning.
