Ahmedabad blasts: Two remanded to 10-day police custody

Ahmedabad : Two suspected SIMI members arrested in connection with the Ahmedabad serial blasts were sent to 10-day police custody by the Metropolitan Court here Tuesday.

Umar Kalabhai Kabira, 38, and Salim Jamalbhai Sipahi, 38, were arrested Monday from their homes in Juhapura and Bapunagar area of the city, respectively. The Crime Branch of police pleaded for 14-day remand for the two but Metropolitan Magistrate G.M. Patel gave only 10-day remand.

Umar allegedly organised meetings of members of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) to plan the July 26 serial blasts, police sources said.

Salim allegedly is a bomb-making expert and trained young SIMI activists in making bombs. The two are said to have been close to SIMI leader Safdar Nagori, who is in police custody.
