Pakistan Slams US, NATO Incursions

By Prensa Latina,

Islamabad : Pakistan Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani, called today for the immediate cease of border violations by US and NATO troops deployed in Afghanistan.

He also emphasized the need for greater cooperation and understanding between all parties involved in the crusade against terrorism and rebel fighting in the region.

Gilani welcomed British Secretary of Justice, Jack Straw, visiting the country, and said that Pakistan’s armed forces are able to handle insurgency within their own territory.

“Sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country would be safeguarded at all costs,” said the leader.

Meanwhile, Straw agreed that foreign incursions into Pakistani territory would prove counterproductive, but at the same time hoped that Islamabad would continue to provide passage to NATO convoys to Afghanistan through its territory.

Different press sources said today that high ranking government and military officials warned that if U.S. troops insisted on attacking local tribes, Pakistan would not alow the passing of those convoys, which is vital for the occupants in the neighboring country.

In London, President Asif Ali Zardari, meets with Prime Minister Gordon Brown, where they will discuss the need to respect the country’s territorial integrity, a topic that Zardari will discuss with President George W. Bush, later on this month.

This Tuesday, a number of U.S. spy planes flew over areas of the Waziristan North and South regions, according to Geo News daily.

The flight incursions have left around 70 people dead this month, including women and children, due to bombings in this borderline region with Afghanistan.
