Kabul : Violent incidents and international troops’firing in Afghanistan’s southern Uruzgan province claimed the lives of six persons including three police and a district chief, police said on Thursday.
In an incident occurred early morning, a roadside bomb struck a patrolling police van killing three policemen on the spot and wounding another, head of criminal department of police in Uruzgan province, Gulab Khan, told Xinhua.
He also said that the international troops mistakenly shot dead Hajji Mullah Rozi Khan, the governor of Chora district late Wednesday night.
“The international troops surrounded a suspected house and Mullah Rozi Khan, without contacting the troops, was going there to solve the problem,” Gulab Khan told Xinhua, “Khan and two of his bodyguards were killed by the firefight of international troops.”
Two more of his bodyguards were injured, he added.
Some 71,000-strong NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and the U.S.-led Coalition forces have been deployed in Afghanistan to hunt down Taliban and al-Qaida operatives.
Moreover, Afghan troops, according to a press release of the Defense Ministry on Thursday, killed three suspected insurgents in Arghandab district of the southern Zabul province Wednesday while police found and defused four rockets from a suburb outside the western Herat city and thus foiled terrorist attacks.
Taliban-related violence and conflicts have left over 3,800 people, mostly insurgents, dead so far this year in Afghanistan.
