New Delhi : A state-run Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus crushed an elderly man near the Wazirpur bus depot in northwest Delhi Tuesday amid the government's crackdown on private buses that have earned the tag of killer buses.

The incident took place at around 1.30 p.m. when Kishan Das, 55, travelling in a DTC bus plying on Route No 114 between Old Delhi and Qutabgarh, was crushed under the wheels of the bus while he was getting down from the rear door.

Das, an electrician and resident of Begumpur, fell down and was crushed under the rear wheels. He died on the spot.

He was the 26th victim of DTC buses this year.

Police said bus driver Jaipal was arrested and a case was registered at the Saraswati Vihar police station.

On Monday, two people suffered severe injuries after being hit by privately operated Blueline buses in two separate incidents.

In the first incident, Mohammed Tahir, 17, sustained critical injuries after being hit by a Blueline plying on Route No 479 between Punjabi Bagh and Badarpur while he was crossing the road near the Badarpur terminus in south Delhi Monday evening.

Tahir was taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), while the bus driver and the conductor managed to flee.

In another incident, an auto rickshaw driver was injured after a Blueline plying on Route No 49 between Inderpuri and Okhla, hit his vehicle from behind in Naraina, southwest Delhi, Monday evening. Bus driver Vijay was arrested.

About 4,200 Bluelines have been under attack in recent weeks for over-speeding and reckless driving which has killed 64 people and injured over 150 this year so far.

In July, drivers of Blueline buses have been involved in nine deaths.
