Tehran : Education ministers of Iran and Iraq here on Monday stressed the need to expand cooperation in the education sector.

Iranian Minister Ali Reza Ali Ahmadi said that his country is ready to cooperate with Iraq in building schools as well as in the technical and vocational fields.

Stating that Iran has a history of 150 years of education, he further said that education is based on scholastic schedule and Iran is prepared to make its experiences in the field available to its neighbor.

“We are interested in exchanging delegations to promote educational activities in the oil-rich country,” he said.

“Iraq has lagged behind in the field and the first step is to compile philosophy for education.”

His Iraqi counterpart, Jafar Musa Al-Khazaei said that Iran has gained numerous experience in the field of education after the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

“We are interested in using the country’s achievements in the field,” he said.

Cooperation between the two sides is on the increase, he said, adding that scientific cooperation will pave the way for collaboration in other areas.

Some 19,000 schools are currently operating in Iraq, he said.

Both sides underlined the need for the construction of schools by benefactors and creating technical and vocational centers.
