Kabul : Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF)and the U.S. -led Coalition forces have eliminated 43 militants in Qalat district of southern Afghanistan’s Zabul province, said a Coalition statement released here on Tuesday.
ANSF and Coalition forces on a patrol received fire from militants in multiple locations on Oct. 5 when they responded with small arms and called in close air support, killing the militants, the statement said.
“One civilian was wounded by enemy fire and medically evacuated to a Coalition medical facility for treatment,” it added, “no ANSFor Coalition service members were injured or killed during the incident.”
An IED (Improvised Explosive Device) and several weapons were also discovered and destroyed in a remote area during the incident.
Moreover, Fazel Bary, the chief of Daychopan district of Zabul province confirmed that Afghan National Army (ANA) and the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in a joint operation Monday eliminated 11 Taliban militants and wounded five more in the district.
Taliban insurgents who have staged a comeback three years ago and intensified their activities targeting interests of Afghan government and international troops, have yet to make any comments.
Conflicts and spiraling insurgency have claimed the lives of over 4,000 people, mostly militants, so far this year.
