By IANS,

Dubai : Abu Dhabi will host the final race of the Formula One Grand Prix in 2009.

The World Motor Sport Council (WMSC), at a meeting, has confirmed that Abu Dhabi’s inaugural Formula One race Nov 15, 2009, will be the grand prix’s season ender of the year, The National newspaper reported.

The Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo was originally scheduled to host the 2009 season ender Nov 1, but in June this year Abu Dhabi was provisionally named to host the event.

The report quoted a spokeswoman for the International Automobile Federation as saying that the 2009 calendar was the “final, final calendar”.

WMSC, at its meeting Tuesday in Paris, also dropped the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal from the 2009 calendar, which means there will be no Formula One Grand Prix in north America next season.

With the inclusion of Abu Dhabi, the number of racers still remained at 18.

Earlier in June, following the announcement of the provisional date, Philippe Gurdjian, chief executive of Abu Dhabi Motor Sport Management (ADMM), said work on the new Yas Marina racetrack in Abu Dhabi was progressing well.

“Construction of Yas Marina Circuit has advanced substantially and we are confident that when the final result is unveiled in November 2009, Abu Dhabi will set a unique standard in the world of motor sport,” he said.
