Parties welcome Madhya Pradesh poll announcement

By IANS,

Bhopal : Madhya Pradesh’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the main opposition Congress Tuesday welcomed the announcement of the assembly polls on Nov 25. and both claimed they were fully prepared to face the voter.

While Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the date was lucky for the BJP, the Congress said the announcement would put a check on the spate of false promises the government was making with a view to impress the electorate.

“My party’s government has done a number of development works and taken several welfare measures during the five-year tenure, which would come to an end on Dec 8. As such we would go to the people to seek their votes on the agenda of development,” Chouhan said.

“The BJP is fully prepared to go to the hustings and we will come back with a thumping majority,” he said.

State Congress president Suresh Pachouri said: “It is good that the poll date has been declared since the Election Commission’s announcement would put check on the needless announcements being made by the government to mislead the electorate. The ruling party also knows that it is going to badly lose the elections and this was the reason that announcements were being made to confuse the voter.

“They (BJP) also knew it would not be possible for them to fulfill the promises made in the past few days because of the paucity of time and funds. As far as the Congress is concerned, it would make the people aware about the corruption during the BJP regime. We are fully prepared to face the elections and we are also sure of forming the government.”
