Baghdad : Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has called for regional cooperation among neighbouring countries to fight terrorist organisations at the frontier areas.
Al-Maliki made the call during a meeting Tuesday with visiting Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Murat Ozcelik.
Al-Maliki voiced Iraq’s dismay over the rebel PKK’s “terrorist acts” against Turkey.
He called for putting in place bilateral agreements between Iraq and Turkey in the security, military and economic fields in the interest of both countries.
For his part, the Turkish official indicated his country’s desire to take staunch action against the PKK in northern Iraq.
He disclosed that major Turkish companies operating in Iraq, especially companies dealing in electricity, would convene an extended conference early November.
Earlier in the day, Ozcelik met Iraqi Kurdistan Regional President Masud Barzani in Baghdad.
