New Delhi : The Congress Wednesday accused Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati of playing “politics of revenge” after she cancelled the land allotted for a rail coach factory in Rae Bareli.
“Political vendetta is the only motive behind the cancellation of land in Rae Bareli. Mayawati’s politics is based on the spectre of fear, revenge and corruption,” Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters here.
Tewari said that Mayawati, as part of her politics of revenge, had cancelled four projects in Rae Bareli and Amethi, the cosntituencies of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi.
“These projects would have enhanced the development in Uttar Pradesh in particular and India in general. All this shows the kind of politics she plays,” he said.
He warned Mayawati of any action against Congress workers.
“If she arrests even a single Congress worker then the party is strong enough to stop her Bharat Bhraman (journey across India),” said Tewari.
Tewari said Mayawati was making baseless allegation that the Congress-led government had adopted step-motherly attitude towards Uttar Pradesh. He said Mayawati was the only chief minister in India who had cancelled investments for development and was making excuses saying farmers were against the project.
“There has been no agitation by the farmers on the ground, the agitation has taken place only in Mayawati’s imagination,” he said.
Tewari also ridiculed the Bahujan Samaj Party chief’s dream of becoming prime minister.
“She can’t fulfill the responsibility of a chief minister and is aiming to become a prime minister. This dream is a gift to her by the Left parties,” Tewari commented.
