Three infiltrators killed near LoC

By IANS,

Jammu : Three militants were killed in a gunfight with the army when they were trying to infiltrate into the Indian side from across the Line of Control (LoC) in the mountainous Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir Saturday, an official said.

The army spokesman said a group of infiltrators were sighted by troops in Peer Badesar area along the LoC in Rajouri district, about 90 km from Jammu.

“The troops challenged them, which led to a fierce encounter between the two sides in an area between the LoC and the barbed wire fence,” he said.

The fence is erected about 500 metres to 1,500 metres inside the Indian territory along the 720-km LoC as deterrence against infiltration of militants from Pakistan.

“Three militants were killed in the fire fight while there was no loss on the army side,” said the spokesman.

Those killed were identified as activists of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and arms, ammunition, explosives and communication devices were recovered from them, he said.

Infiltration attempts from Pakistan are increasing and the latest attempt was about 10th in just over a fortnight. Nine militants and a soldier have been killed in the army’s efforts to check infiltration.
