Abu Dhabi : Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah leads a senior-level delegation to the fifth edition of the Future Forum – 2008, a senior Kuwaiti diplomat said here on Saturday.
On Sunday, Sheikh Mohammad will address the forum which has opened here earlier Saturday on the level of senior officials, Director of international organizations department of the Foreign Ministry Mansour Al-Otaibi told KUNA.
“Kuwait has been attributing great importance to forum and has played an effective role in its meetings since it started in 2004,” Al-Otaibi pointed out.
“During forum Sheikh Mohammad takes an active part in the discussions about the outlook of development in the Arabian Gulf region.
“He is keen on showing Kuwait’s remarkable achievements in several domains including the activities of civil society organizations,” the diplomat pointed out.
“The Kuwaiti civil society organizations, which serve as partners of their governments, help promote the country’s social and economic development and gained a good experience in this domain,” he noted.
“Representatives of civil society organizations met in Dubai on Friday and reached several recommendations calling for more freedom for, and strengthened partnership among, their organizations with a view to promote their activities.
“Senior government officials of Arab countries, G-8 members, European countries, and Middle East and North Africa countries as well as Canada, Japan, and the United States met on Saturday as part of the Future Forum.
“Diplomatic Attach{ of Kuwait Embassy in Abu-Dhabi Abdul-Mohsen Al-Refa’I, First Secretary of the Embassy Mesh’al Al-Mansour represented Kuwait while Rola Dashti and Fatema Al-Abdali represented the Kuwaiti civil society organizations at the meeting.
“The two-day forum, co-chaired by the UAE and Japan – the current president of the G8, gathers some 200 delegates from 38 such countries as well as 60 representatives of regional organizations and non-government organizations (NGOs).
The conferees debate a range of issues including the democratic and economic reforms, the partnership between governments and NGOs and the sustainable social-economic development.
Sheikh Dr. Mohammad will take part in the activities of the annual forum on Sunday.
Kuwait’s delegation includes also Chief of Staff of Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister’s office Sheikh Ahmad Al-Nasser Al-Sabah, Kuwait Ambassador to the UAE Faisal Al-Mesh’an, First Secretary of Kuwait Embassy Ali Al-Zaidi and Al-Otaibi.
