Dengue scare in north Gujarat

Palanpur (Gujarat) : With one death each in Banaskantha, Mehsana and Sabarkantha districts during the last fortnight from suspected dengue fever, the vector-borne disease is assuming alarming dimensions in north Gujarat.

In a case of suspected dengue, Himat Dilipbhai Chebaliya, a three-year-old boy from Deesa in Banaskantha died Thursday, District Malaria Officer of Banaskantha N.G. Bhalakiya said Saturday.

“Of the seven suspected dengue cases in the district four have been confirmed. A team of entomologists has been campaigning in Banaskantha to fight the dreaded disease with help of local medical teams,” Bhalakiya said.

Nayan Jani, chief district health officer (CDHO) of Mehsana, said: “After one death in Visnagar, five suspected cases have come to light. We are taking preventive measures to check the disease. Proper awareness among people is the real prevention.”

Sabarkantha CDHO F.H. Patel added: “Following the death of Shobham Sharma, 9, there are no further reports of dengue in the district.”
