Olympics not to ban cycling: Rogge

By Xinhua

Belgrade : International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge said Friday that the Olympic Games will not ban cycling though the sport was shaken by the doping scandals during the ongoing Tour de France.

"To exclude the sport from the Olympic Games is not a solution," said the IOC chief during a visit to Belgrade.

Rogge said the IOC planned to help the International Cycling Union (UCI) "as a trusted partner" to cleanse the sport.

"It is not the UCI that is cheating. It is the riders who are cheating," he added.

Regarded as the world's greatest cycling race, the Tour de France has been hit by doping scandals involving pre-race favourite Alexander Vinokourov, Italy's Cristian Moreni and expelled race leader Michael Rasmussen of Denmark.
