Don’t colour on against North Indians as feud between states, says Maharashtra CM

By NNN-PTI,

Aurangabad, India : Maharashtra state Chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said the campaign against North Indians should not be given the colour of a feud between states.

“Quarrels in train over trivial issues are not new to us and such incidents take place. We are carrying on detailed inquiry into the matter,” he told the media on Thursday evening at Latur airport while returning to Mumbai after celebrating Deepavali with his family.

“We are bound to give protection to the north Indians but no one should try to color it as feud between the states,” Deshmukh said.

Maharashtrian and non-Mahrashtrian leaders should abstain from giving statements against each other, which might instigate the common man, he added.

Replying to a question on the killing of a north Indian youth in a local train in Mumbai, he said six persons were arrested in this connection and the reason behind the murder was being thoroughly investigated.

He assured strict action against those found guilty in the case.

Deshmukh said he talked at length with Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and also with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Nanded over the issue.

“The government will take appropriate action in this regard. We will be providing sufficient security for Chhat Puja in Mumbai. I already had discussions with the Commissioner of Police and other senior officers a few days before. We will leave no stone unturned to maintain peace and harmony in the city,” said Deshmukh.
