Toronto : Canada’s new foreign minister, Lawrence Cannon, has condemned the serial blasts in Assam in northeastern India that killed more than 70 people Thursday.
In a statement, Cannon said, “Canada strongly condemns the bombings in Assam, which targeted civilians and resulted in scores of deaths and hundreds of injuries.”
He said, “On behalf of all Canadians, I extend my condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives, and I wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
The minister said his department was working with the Indian authorities to determine whether any Canadian was affected by these events.
“We stand firmly united with the government of India in condemning these despicable acts of violence,” the minister sad.
“Canada and India share a commitment to freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law. Among our mutual priorities is close cooperation to promote international security and to fight terrorism,” added Cannon.
