By Xinhua,
Gaza : Islamic Hamas movement, which controls the Gaza Strip, Wednesday said its judgement on US president-elect Barack Obama is subject to his political stances.
Democrat Obama won US presidential elections Wednesday against his Republican adversary John McCain.
“Hamas did not see any difference between the electoral agenda of Obama and McCain,” said Sami Abu Zuhri, a spokesman for Hamas.
“However, the movement will judge on Obama according to his political stances rather than his political agenda.”
Abu Zuhri also called on Obama to “rethink the American foreign policy towards the Palestinian cause and to stop the bias towards the (Israeli) occupation.”
The United States, like most Western nations, does not recognize Hamas, the militant group which vows to erase Israel from the Middle East map.
Obama has said that his country should not hold direct talks with Hamas unless the latter recognizes Israel and abide by peace deals.
Hamas accuses the Bush administration of leading an international drive to isolate it which won the parliamentary elections in 2006.
