Ranchi : The Jharkhand Olympic Association (JOA) has sought at least a month’s time to conduct the National Games as the infrastructure for the event is still not ready.
The Games are scheduled Dec 1-13. Work at the main stadium and two other indoor stadiums is still on.
A team of Games Technical Committee of IOA Thursday arrived here to assess the situation. The team has prepared a report and left Friday. IOA will take a final call on the basis of the report.
“We are working hard to meet the deadline. If we get one month more, it will be easier for us to conduct the national games,” S.M. Hasmi, general secretary of JOA, told IANS.
Jharkhand was awarded the 34th national games in 2002 and the event was scheduled in 2007. It is already one year behind schedule. The state government first found it difficult to get the land and construction work started only in 2005.
JOA has still not finalized any event orgainser and there are no banners or hoardings for the awareness drive in the build-up the event.
