New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Friday issued notices to the central government and Delhi Police on the alleged leak of key information to media on the suspects of Sep 13 serial blasts in Delhi.
One of the leading magazines in the country had published the confession statements of three suspected terrorists arrested Sep 20 by the police.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar said that as the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is looking into the matter, the court’s interference may amount to carrying out a parallel inquiry.
The bench passed the order on a petition filed by a voluntary organisation, Act Now for Harmony and Democracy, seeking a judicial inquiry into the Sep 19 shootout in Jamia Nagar locality of the capital.
Two suspected terrorists and one police official were killed in the gun-battle.
“There are facts and circumstances which cast doubts on the version of police officials. Even the NHRC guidelines say that a judicial inquiry be conducted in cases of encounter (shoot-out),” said advocate Prashant Bhushan who appeared for the NGO.
The court asked the central government and Delhi Police to file their reply by Dec 15, the next date of hearing.
Counsel for the police informed the court that a preliminary report of the shoot-out has already been filed before the commission and a detailed one would be filed soon.
