London : England cricket board chief Giles Clarke said that under no circumstances cricket would be allowed to be dicated by terrorists, indicating the strong possibility of the team returning to India for the unfinished series.
The chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), despite his frosty relationship with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Lalit Modi, said the cricket fraternity should be united in this hour of crisis.
“Under no circumstances will we allow our cricket to be dictated by terrorists. India is an enormous country and there are large parts of it that have never seen terrorist activity. In 2005 the Aussies were sensible and we’re doing the same here,” Clarke was quoted as saying in the daily Mirror.
“The security advice we’re receiving has not changed and we’re getting a lot of help and cooperation from everyone in India. A lot of progress has been made and some extremely good and constructive meetings have taken place,” he added.
“The BCCI is doing all it can to facilitate the tour, but we must do what we have to do properly. It’s what every England player wants and deserves,” he said.
ECB security expert Reg Dickason is currently touring India to assess the safety of the venues for the two Test series starting Dec 11. ECB will take a final call to visit India based on Dickason’s report.
